Our approach to learning…
Play on Words’ approach to teaching reading, writing, and spelling, is explicit, structured, and multi-sensory. Practices are backed by current scientific research.
We draw on the Orton Gillingham approach and LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) and include the literacy skills of oral language, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and reading comprehension to develop skilled readers. Our services may integrate cued articulation, explicit handwriting formation instruction, and explicit and structured writing instruction.
Sessions are client-centred, with a gradual release structure of ‘I do, We do, You do’ to develop client skills and abilities while meeting each person where they are developmentally. Play on Words’ approach is holistic and offers a neurodiverse-affirming environment.
